About us

The Loughborough Church of Christ is a group of Christians who see the Bible as God's Word to us today and as the only authority by which our lives are to be governed.  We seek to be faithful and obedient to God's will.  There are assemblies of the Church of Christ all around the world, and historically, there have been Churches of Christ in the Loughborough area for over 150 years.

Our mission is to be the body of Jesus Christ in our community, in our world, in our culture, and in our time.  We are not trying to be a church of the first century, the tenth century, or the nineteenth century.  We are striving to be the church that God wants us to be right now, today, and tomorrow.

We don't claim to have all the answers to all the questions that people may ask, but we do believe that we must be dedicated to studying the Bible as the basis of truth for all that we do and believe.  We are not in the business of decrying other people's religious beliefs but to patiently teaching that which we firmly believe to be God's will, as revealed in the Bible.

We believe and practise baptism (full immersion) of believers for the forgiveness of sins and the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:37-39). As was the practice in apostolic times, we meet on the first day of the week, Sunday (Acts 20:7), to celebrate Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross by Communion (Mark 14:22-26; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). It is the central part of our worship. We enjoy meeting together on a regular basis to encourage each other and to worship together (Hebrews 10:23-25; 1 Thessalonians 5:11). Singing is an important part of our church life which we do without musical accompaniment (a capella).

We are a church made up of people of all ages, from various backgrounds, and of numerous cultures. We have a strong youth programme, seeking to help young people to grow up with the right moral values that our society today needs. They are involved in various activities which are fun, fulfilling, and character building.
